Exhibition Day

Eventbrite Booking Website

The Sunday Exhibition is a fantastic one-day event of shows, workshops, demonstrations, exhibits, talks and experiments and a premier event in Ireland for the promotion of STEM.

Some tickets for shows and workshops for this free event were released on Saturday 16th November on www.galwayscience.eventbrite.ie and families are offered the opportunity to book five events to attend.  We released 70% of tickets and retained 30% for people to queue for on the day at the venues.

Schedule for Shows and Workshops See details below to help you plan your day or download the following document GSTF Exhibition Schedule

Please refrain from booking more than five events and if you do book events that you are unable to attend, please ensure to cancel the booking on Eventbrite to allow others the opportunity to book.

Remember you do not require a ticket to attend this event – there are plenty of events like the Exhibition Hall, Teddy Bear Hospital, Medtronic Kids Hospital and Science Buskers that don’t require any ticket, you just rock up.  The best advice is to come early and avoid the crowds.

Most of all HAVE A GREAT DAY!! and we would be delighted to get some feedback from you.

Dynamic Earth (24 minutes) Narrated by Liam Neeson

Dynamic Earth, the audience dives below the ocean surface and into a swarm of microscopic organisms that hold the key to our climate: DIATOMS, RADIOLARIANS, COPEPODS, and colourful OCTUPUS LARVAE: all rendered in exquisite detail for giant screens. As these creatures fade into the background, the audience finds itself in the middle of schools of JACKFISH and HAMMERHEAD SHARKS, before rubbing shoulders with an enormous HUMPBACK WHALE.

Join us to find out what the weather can add to your play!

Can you imagine looking out the window with delight as the rain comes bucketing down, or a gale is howling around you? Imagine the growing mucky puddle on your road leading to excitement and playfulness? WeatherPlay wants to make this a reality. How do we harness the power of the wind and the rain for play? How do we make a wet Galway day make you want to get you out of bed in the morning? How do we make the dark evenings the best time for children to play outdoors?

Artist Michelle Browne and the Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann team are working with children and young people from across the city and county to rethink our relationship to the weather through a series of active workshops, to devise new ways to play with the elements, and help children to be active and creative outdoors right through the year.

In this workshop participants will be asked to explore the grounds of NUI Galway with a new eye, looking at how weather affects our surroundings and what opportunities that offers for bad-weather play. Participants will make an all-weather map that they can take home and use for future all-weather play.  This workshop is part of a new exploration of Galway city and county for opportunities for outdoor play in bad weather.

Please note that the workshop will take place outdoors, including if it is raining and muddy, so come prepared and bring your outdoor gear and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hope It Rains | Soineann nó Doineann is created by Ríonach Ní Néill, produced by Ciotóg & Milestone Inventive, and commissioned by Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture.

Using visual and tactile accessories, as well as interactive games, children discover that our body is made of cells, the smallest unit of life and that it contains many different types of cells. In the last part of the session, the children will create their very own type of cell from jumping clay and will be able to take it home. The session is delivered in the classroom by the NUI Galway Cell EXPLORERS team. ‘Little Cells’ is supported by Science Foundation Ireland, through a ‘Discover’ award.
