“The joy of discovery is certainly the liveliest that the mind can ever feel” – Claude Bernard

Harnessing the power of science and technology is more important than ever in the world we now live in.  Scientific and engineering knowledge will be critical drivers of Ireland’s economic future.  Thus, it is essential that we continue to grow and develop Ireland’s technological talent pool.  Collaboration between industry, academia and government to position Ireland as a world leading center of excellence in scientific and technological innovation is key.  The realisation of our vision to become a world-renowned innovation centre will depend heavily upon the skills and capabilities of our younger generation.

As a major sponsor of the Galway Science & Technology Festival over the past twelve years it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the festival committee on their efforts in continuing to develop and promote this venture.

Mystery is what attracts children to the fields of Science and Technology. The challenge of discovery and learning engages us from our first days and is something we need to foster until our final days.
