The Science & Technology Exhibition will take place in the Bailey Allen Hall at NUI Galway on Sunday 21st November.
 
 

The National Aquarium of Ireland, will host school visits as part of the Festival.
As Ireland’s National Aquarium, the Atlantaquaria in Salthill is home to the country’s largest display of marine and fresh water life

Éanna Ní Lamhna has a degree in Botany and Mircobiology and a H. Dip in Education from UCD. She is a long-standing member of the panel of experts on RTÉ’s wildlife programme ‘Mooney goes Wild’, and one of the most instantly recognisable voices on Irish radio.

James Soper is a Guinness World Record Holder for juggling and performs this spectacular combination of top-quality circus skill and science education.  Spectacular juggling and balancing tricks are used together with lots of volunteer help to show how forces work and combine when real circus performers show off their skills.

Dr. Malachy Thompson, formerly GMIT, will bring his explosive science Laboratory to the Galway Civic Museum, where primary school audiences will have the opportunity to see and hear some amazing chemistry in action.
 

Primary school teacher and science demonstrator Jane McLaughlin has given hugely popular CPD courses to teachers for many years.  Now you can have her in your own primary school classroom for a day.

Sue’s demonstration shows are explosive and energetic performances which aim to relate the abstract world of science to everyday objects and experiences. This show will highlight the scientific properties which surround us in everyday items we can purchase in our local supermarket.

These workshops aim to raise interest in Science by showing students the advantage of working in a team to design the best rocket possible. Students work in teams to research the science behind rockets. They will then design, build and launch water rockets to simulate a realistic rocket launch experience.

Create lightning, form rainbows, examine climate change and show the destructive power of extreme weather. This show will involve an interactive presentation covering principles such as atmospheric pressure, convection currents, sound, optics and electromagnetism. The show covers areas in science and geography.

A lot has happened on the space and astronomy scene in the last year and Robert Hill who works with the European Space Agency will be bringing some incredible resources and visuals which he will use as part of his Spaceflight workshop for schools.

Based on the dynamic, open-ended, spatial building system, K'NEX Education provides manipulatives, ideas and lesson plans that promote student engagement in maths, science and technology.
The K’NEX team bring their colourful, fun roadshow to the Galway Education Centre for this year’s Festival.

Mad Science Shows are spectacular science-themed events designed to amaze and entertain young audiences of any size.
Children can conjure foggy ice storms, float on a Mad Science hovercraft, see giant smoke rings, smoky bubbles and so much more!

GRO-Careers is a secondary schools outreach programme developed by the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Science, based at NUI, Galway. The 40 minute programme highlights the cutting edge research ongoing at the NCBES and aims to encourage students to consider careers inn science and engineering.

Magic Mathworks is a travelling hands-on mathematicss exhibition for schools, museums and discovery centres. This touring maths lab demonstrates and explores a multisensory approach to the learning of mathematics based on the Multiple Embodiment Principle of Z P Dienes. Primary School pupils will experience maths through sight, sound, touch and movement.

Did you ever wonder how a stent for your heart is designed?
A series of hands on workshops will be provided for primary school children, where Boston Scientific engineers will guide pupils in the design of stents using the 3D parametric drawing package, SolidWorks. Pupils will also have the opportunity to experience KNEX engineering workshops which will also be provided and facilitated by engineers from Boston Scientific.

This year Carmel Burns (former PPDS cuiditheoir) will visit a number of schools for a day, to present a series of workshops based on the Primary School Curriculum for Mathematics. The aim of these workshops is to support teachers in developing and presenting fun activities in Mathematics.

Leo Enright takes us on a journey in search of new worlds above our heads. Will we find life out there?
 Starting as a schoolboy space commentator in the 1960s Leo Enright has broadcast live commentaries on every major space event since the first Moon landing. He was elected Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society in 1978.
